Streamside native plant communities are an important component of healthy rivers. The Lower Washougal river has significant areas where native trees and shrubs no longer exist. Impervious surfaces like roofs and driveways lead to more direct runoff into the river.  Our goal is to improve riverside properties in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing and enhances water quality.

We are offering a voluntary Homeowner Incentive Program that provides technical assistance and financial reimbursement to design and install Best Management Practices (BMPs) to slow runoff and improve water quality in the lower river.  Homeowners can be reimbursed for a part of the cost of installing one or more BMPs:
